English language plays a crucial role in English is considered as the second language in India. It's also a means of inter-state communication. National policy on Education (1986)has advocated the importance of teaching English in India.
Besides, English is the associate official language of India.It links people from different States and used as the medium of instruction at higher levels of education across the country. It's also used by courts and parliament. English press and medias are having the highest circulation in the country. It's also influenced the fields of education,law, politics,commerce, business, administration etc.
Indian Education Commission (1964-66)by kothari has proposed English as a subject of teaching at secondary level. English learning starts from early stage itself in India.In most of the states,it starts with primary section. Even though, Indians have been instructing English for several years in school,most of the students face issues with LSRW( listening,speaking, reading and writing). Expected level of performance of the language is less in the present condition. Still, English language competency remains unsatisfactory in many states.
